If you leave your pool without the pump running, at any time of year, the water will quickly become cloudy, dirty and algae will start to form..
There are 3 main types of Algae that form in Australian swimming pools:
The thing to consider with all algae is that it gets into every part of your pool system as well as the pool itself. This means that your pipes, filter, pump and the rest of your pool system becomes contaminated.Water movement is the key to heathy pool. So it’s advisable to deal with any issues that could lead to algae forming in your pool without delay.
Green Algae will most likely be the first algae to form as it is by far the most common. Pool surfaces become slimy and algae forms readily where there are joins, and angles such as around steps and corners.
Whilst it’s by no means the worst algae to remove, it can become pretty stubborn the longer it is left. Thai means that the process of removing it becomes harder and takes longer.
Mustard algae is much worse than green algae. As you would expect this type of algae is yellow in colour.
Whilst mustard algae is slower growing it is much harder to remove and requires a strong shock treatment and plenty of surface brushing to remove it.
Brushing the algae removes the top layer and allows the shock treatment to get to the active under -layer so that it can kill the spores.
If the algae has been in your pool for too long it will need a number of treatments to shift it.
Black spot algae is much harder to remove and is the most problematic. Left untreated it will damage pool surfaces, eating into concrete.
Very concentrated, algae specific treatments are needed to effectively kill and remove this stubborn harmful algae. These treatments can be very costly and take long time.
